I consider myself an artist, jeweller, sculptor and maker. I am driven by an interest in the effects that objects and jewellery have on us – their sense of ‘power’ throughout history and in the modern day.
The majority of my work explores aspects of positivity and wellbeing when confronted with illness, specifically pain and its physical and emotional impact. It always interests me to examine whether jewellery and related objects can have a positive effect and aid towards wellbeing.
My work is often very personal and self–analytical, which grew from my being diagnosed with a chronic pain condition in 2010. Through analysing the impact that pain has on the body and mind, I have been exploring pain relief, reward systems, posture and the effect on emotions.
As part of my research I am also developing a project with women from Endometriosis UK to see whether modern day amulets can be made for women without prior beliefs in order to aid wellbeing.
I work with a myriad of materials and skills that suits a particular idea. For me it is very much about the concept and the wearer. My work often has a humorous side, frequently including a play on words. I take great pleasure in in commissioning on a bespoke basis for individual needs.
